A professional photographer and gaming fan has pushed Horizon Zero Dawn’s photo mode to the limit, resulting in some absolutely beautiful in game captures. Horizon Zero Dawn released for the PlayStation 4 in 2017 and quickly became one of the platform’s most prominent titles. Its unique story that took players to a futuristic world overrun with mechanical beasts was quite different from the studios’ previous?Killzone?titles, and it?won several awards after its release.
Following three years as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, Horizon Zero Dawn was ported to PC in 2020, opening the game up to an even wider audience. While its arrival on PC was pretty glitchy and required several patches to get it up to an acceptable state post-launch, it still managed to sell well on its release. This move to an additional gaming platform, along with the current anticipation for its sequel Horizon Forbidden West, has meant that Horizon Zero Dawn has experienced somewhat of a resurgence in recent times. This resurgence has been shown off beautifully by one very talented?player.

Professional photographer ThePhotoGrabber shared a reel of some of their most dazzling in game captures on reddit, exhibiting just what can be done with Horizon Zero Dawn’s photo mode. These pictures range from captures of Aloy in battle to the world’s many machines and its simple but captivating scenery. ThePhotoGrabber went on to share that they have died several times in an effort to get these perfect shots, but that they “do it for art.” These impressive pictures captured in Horizon Zero Dawn have gone on to further add to the excitement for Horizon Forbidden West’s?impeding release.
Fans finally got to see brand-new footage for Horizon Forbidden West at a PlayStation State of Play event in May 2021. This particular reveal showed off Aloy’s refined combat techniques (which appears to have improved since Horizon Zero Dawn) and her new equipment, as well as more of the breathtaking world that players will have to travel across when the game releases in 2022. While clearly offering up more in terms of graphical quality thanks to the new technology that is currently available, this footage was most lauded for its underwater section. Here, fans were finally allowed to see just what lies beneath the surface in Aloy’s world, and it is stunning.
The game’s director has revealed that, while those experiencing Horizon Forbidden West on the PlayStation 5 will notice more visual refinement and detail within the game, it will still look gorgeous on the PlayStation 4. Therefore, there is no doubt that when it releases next year there will be plenty of players utilizing its photo mode to capture their own unique visions of the game. However, in the meantime – and as ThePhotoGrabber’s pictures show?- there is clearly still plenty of scope left in Horizon Zero Dawn for players to flex their creative muscles while waiting for the next installment to the series.
