If you are always on the lookout for great places to go walking, there are some spectacular sites just beyond Surrey’s borders that are worth considering including this gem next to Heathrow Airport.
Bedfont Lakes Country Park is tucked behind the airport and it’s a paradise for nature lovers. The large green space of around 180 acres is made up of lakes, wetlands, wildflower meadows and woodland and it’s suitable for families with young children and dogs.
Located in Hounslow, just over the Surrey border, it is very easy to get to as it is just off the A30 and it is a stone’s throw from Staines.
There is plenty of space for children to run about and lakes to feed the ducks, plus there are various walking routes to go on including a lovely circular trail around the perimeter of the park.
There is also an animal centre, a children’s play area and an information centre that sells hot and cold drinks. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times in the park, except when in the designated off lead area.

The private nature reserve is only open to members, but anyone can sign up and become a member from the information centre. Swimming, stand up paddleboarding, boating and all forms of water sport are not permitted in any of the lakes.
The wildlife centre is called Animal Antics and it is home to fluffy friends, insects and other cute animals. It is currently open Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm and weekdays through August 1pm-4pm. It costs ￡1 to enter.
Open every day of the week from 8am, it is free to enter the park and there are two free car parks on site. The free car park at Bedfont Road currently closes at 8.30pm and the one at Clockhouse Lane shuts at 9pm.
